RP Mission Team – Week 1

From May 30th to June 2, the mission team arrived in Airdrie, participated in orientation meetings and began working on our testimony presentations to give at the Craigroyston High School in North Edinburgh. Much of the first day was devoted to each of the team members settling in and getting to know one another. We began to talk about the basics surrounding Airdrie RP as our headquarters, the general tasks that we would accomplish in the coming weeks, and the way in which the team would function together in order to get these things done in a smooth and orderly fashion. During this time, we also began meeting with Peter Loughridge individually to begin working on our school presentations and started creating a script for what we wanted to say to the kids.

From the first couple days of the missions trip, I have been impressed with how well we have all seemed to have connected as a group. Leaving out an awkward meal or two, which is to be expected, we all seem to be relatively comfortable with one another. I have also been personally challenged and encouraged particularly with the morning team worship. The topics being covered in 1 Corinthians, combined with my allotted personal devotion times have caused significant meditations for me throughout the day, which have really been a great blessing in keeping my mind focused on Christ throughout the work that we are doing.

Overall, in the first few days of the missions trip, what I can say have been the highlights of my experience have been the spiritual enrichment that I have felt in the times of worship and biblical contemplation within this group of believers and new friends and the excitement that I have looking ahead towards the school visits and leaflet distribution in North Edinburgh. I am anxiously awaiting to see the way Christ will use us during our time here and it is my prayer that in each act we participate in that He will be glorified.
