North Edinburgh RPC Constituted

On the 11th September 2011, worship services began in a home on the Queensferry Road in North Edinburgh. For the first nine months, these were led by visiting preachers. During this period (in January 2012) the church plant began meeting in Craigroyston Community High School.

On 18th May 2012, the Presbytery of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Scotland called Peter Loughridge to be the organising pastor of the church plant in North Edinburgh. This call was accepted on the night, and Rev. Loughridge was ordained and inducted on 16th June 2012.

On Friday evening the 27th October 2017, this church plant took the next exciting step forward in their life as a church. At a public meeting of Presbytery, the church plant was constituted as a congregation of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Rev. Kenneth Stewart (Moderator of Presbytery) led the service and constituted the congregation in prayer. Thirteen members were received into the congregation. Presbytery appointed Rev. Peter Loughridge, Mr. Sam Bell and Mr. George Rodger as an Interim Session for the work. Rev. Andrew Quigley, who had been involved in the oversight of the work from the very beginning, preached to the newly formed congregation – urging them to make known the manifold wisdom of God (Ephesians 3:10) and to proclaim the excellencies of Him who called them out of darkness into his marvellous light (1 Peter 2:9).

This exciting night for the new congregation was made all the more encouraging by the presence of so many Christian friends from other places. Each of the four other RPCS congregations were represented, and it meant a lot to us in North Edinburgh to have them with us to share in this special night. We would also like to thank all those in the RPCI (and the wider Christian Church) who have visited, prayed, given and supported the work in many other ways. Most of all we give God all the glory, praise and thanks for establishing a congregation where church planting work had begun in September 2011.

Rev. Peter Loughridge
