RP Mission Team – Week Three

Stranraer is a beautiful seaside village of around 10,000 people. The team served in this area from June 10 through the 17.

The Sunday evening service of the 11th was a joyful, thankful event for the commission of a newly remodeled fellowship hall, kitchen, and restrooms. The congregation shared in a joyful celebration and thankfulness to God along with those who had worked on the fellowship hall.

Many of the mission team members were experiencing colds or recovering from colds. Please keep the team in prayer for quick recovery and good health.

The first part of the week entailed passing out flyer invitations throughout Stranraer and surrounding area for services to be conducted on June 14-16, Wednesday through Friday evenings.

The good saints of the RP church took many members into their own homes, and delicious meals were provided by the good members from the church.  Excellent conversations and teas were also provided.  The saints of Stranraer will stand long in memory for their hospitality and loving kindness.

On Thursday the 15th we were blessed to visit where Samuel Rutherford preached and shepherded God’s people from 1627-1639.  It is said he walked the hills praying in this area from 2-3 am.

Also on the 15th we visited Wigtown where the two Margaret’s were imprisoned.  Both women were drowned in the tidal Bladnoch river. Another stone remembers three men that were hanged in the same year as the martyred women.

On the morning of the 17th the team visited a site where a six Covenanters were martyred in the Galloway area.

Also on the 17th a very special event occurred – the baptism of Willow Steele, the daughter of Rev Stephen and Mrs Carla Steele.   When the team arrived Willow was a wee seven weeks old and just turned eight weeks while we were there.  This is a very special and joyful day for all!

During this mission trip, I have asked many people the question of the current state of the church in Scotland. Many have responded with lament and have expressed that there is a great need for the Lord to pour out His Spirit and revive this land and the church.  Please pray for the Lord to pour out His Spirit on all people of this land that they may call upon the name of the Lord and be saved.
