Update on North Edinburgh RP Church

2021 and 2022 have brought some 10 year anniversaries for the work in North Edinburgh. In September 2011, the first services were held in a home with a small group of people who were interested in a new Reformed Presbyterian work beginning somewhere in Scotland’s capital city. In June 2012, Peter Loughridge was inducted as the organising pastor of the church plant that had been meeting weekly for ten months by that stage. So, it feels like we have two birthdays (like the Queen!) but June 2012 is counted as the official commencement of the work, meaning our 10^th anniversary approaches this year.

We truly praise God for all that He has done during those ten years. Like many new works and mission works, lots of people have been part of God’s work here during that time (maybe even for a significant part of those ten years) but have moved on elsewhere. We are thankful for the many lives we have been able to have an impact on for the Saviour and the blessing they have been in our lives. The coronavirus period has particularly been a season in which a number of families (for a range of reasons) have moved away. Over 20 adults and children are now living and worshipping elsewhere. Please continue to pray with us for other families and individuals to come and support us and be a part of God’s work here. Give thanks for those God has continued to bring in, and also for the great spirit and enthusiasm that exist within those who remain.

Some of our needs remain much the same as they have done during that 10 year period. Truly we are learning what it is to wait on the Lord! Please continue to pray for local elders, as well as men who will serve as deacons. Pray too please about where we meet for services. For much of the ten years we have been based in Craigroyston Community High School, but we have not been able to be there for over two years. We are thankful for how God has provided temporary solutions, but we long to be more settled in our location. The pandemic has been an especially challenging time to be without our own building. Our Session has also begun to consider more actively looking for suitable premises as our own building and for the finances to be able to purchase and maintain it. We continue to lean upon and look to the Lord who has all the resources of this earth (Psalm 24:1).
