Senior Camp 2022

This year 5 young people connected to the Scottish RP Church travelled over to the Irish RP Senior Camp in Northern Ireland: Hannah Martin from North Edinburgh, Hannah Hall from Stranraer, and Grant Maclennan, Archie Campbell, and Matteo Plebiscito ftom Glasgow. We asked them a few questions about their time away.

What was something you learned or that really made an impression on you from the talks?

Matteo P. – How much some sins are easy and natural to us, particularly with our tongue and eyes. Also the reminder that God hates lying so much was sobering.

Hannah H. – Something I learned and that was really memorable from the talks we had was the way Robert Robb took parts of ourselves such as the tongue, eyes, and mind and showed us how they can affect us more than we think. We learned how our tongue can be used in such destructive ways such as through lying, but how we can also learn to use them constructively. As for the eyes we learnt how we are blinded by our sin and therefore we don’t see Christ’s glory and graciousness, and we are blind to Jesus if we don’t change.

Archie C. – I think how short life is, and that we are not promised tomorrow, as well as not deserving anything, so we should be careful with every action we take.

Grant M. – The talks this year focused on the tongue, the eyes and the mind. Mr Robb emphasised the importance of controlling your tongue and the fact that your tongue is involved in nearly every sin we commit which was not something I had not particularly thought about before.

What was your favourite activity?

Hannah M. – Let’s Go Hydro or the water parts of the messy games.

Matteo P. – Let’s Go Hydro was my favourite, but they were all fun.

Hannah H. – My favourite activity was probably the messy games, these were such great fun, and were really good icebreakers to meet new people and make new friends with it being so early on in the week.

Archie C. – I enjoyed Let’s Go Hydro as well as team games, like messy games, as I felt it led to us all getting to know each other.

Grant M. – My favourite activity was the competitive sports afternoon – we competed in football, rugby, volleyball and bucketball.

What was your favourite thing about camp?

Hannah M. – How nice and supporting and helpful everyone was.

Matteo P. – Spending a week with other Christian young people and getting to know them.

Hannah H. – My favourite thing about Senior Camp would probably be discussion groups, as they really helped you understand the talks to a deeper level you maybe wouldn’t of thought about on your own as you are getting other peoples opinions and thoughts. I also really enjoyed the games at night, such a little thing, but it was great fun and something everyone looked forward to every night. I made new friendships and got to see old friends I hadn’t seen in years, and this was great time spent.

Archie C. – Meeting new people and the feeling and surroundings. Knowing that there are other believers my age was a big boost as well as making friends.

Grant M. – I enjoyed the mix between the talks which were so relevant to our lives, and the fun time I had with my friends.
