Today in Covenanter History

Were you aware that the Covenanters achieved the most efficient capture of Edinburgh Castle? The castle, which has been besieged over 23 times throughout history, including during the Wars of Independence and Jacobite Uprising with Bonnie Prince Charlie, is renowned as the most besieged place in Europe. However, it has not been an easy place to conquer, with one siege, called the Lang Siege, lasting two years.

Despite this, the Covenanters, on the 21st March 1639, managed to take control of the castle in under 30 minutes by blowing off the front gate, storming inside, and securing the castle with minimal casualties.

This remarkable achievement was the castles shortest siege and most efficient capture.
