Stornoway Communion Season & New Members

We in Stornoway RP church recently held our August Communion services.

Rev Donald MacDonald started off the services on Thursday 24th by preaching from Zechariah chapter 12 on A Call To Repentance.  The rest of the services were taken  by our own minister, Rev Kenneth Stewart.  On Friday 25th, he preached from 1 John chapter 2 on Christ as our Advocate.  On both Saturday and the Lord’s Day morning he gave us an exposition of Isaiah chapter 52, from verse 13 along with chapter 53.  On Saturday he dealt with it under the heading of The Lord’s Servant Humbled and on the Lord’s Day morning under the heading of The Lord’s Servant Exalted.  In the evening he preached from Acts chapter 8 on The Ethiopian Eunuch.  Finally, on Monday evening,  Mr Stewart’s sermon was from Luke chapter 24 on The Two on the Road to Emmaus.

These sermons were both expository and edifying.  They instructed the mind but they also touched the heart, gave us plenty of food for thought with exhortations as to how to apply these truths to our spiritual lives.  Each time we read and re-read these passages of Scripture we can’t but benefit from the light that was shed on them for us and praise the Lord for the enlightening of the Holy Spirit through the ministry of the Word preached.  We were certainly taken to ‘green pastures’ and ‘beside still waters’, quickening our souls to enable us to ‘walk in the paths of righteousness’.

We were delighted to welcome into our Fellowship one male member by profession of faith along with two couples and two ladies by disjunction certificates from other local congregations.  This has been a great encouragement to us and we praise the Lord for these tokens from His hands.  Our attendances were boosted by people from other congregations and our house fellowships stimulated discussion of the truths declared to us, binding us ever closer to one another.

It is our sincere prayer that as the Gospel is so faithfully preached and attractively presented that the Lord will bless it in the salvation of perishing souls.

As we concluded on the Monday evening and lingered outside – always a good sign – we all echoed Mr Stewart’s closing words that “when the Lord is present, it is hard to disperse”.
