Senior Camp

Four young people from the Glasgow and North Edinburgh churches recently attended the Irish RP Senior Camp in Northern Ireland. Camp was held from the 29th June to the 6th July, and Rev. Joel Loughridge spoke on the Loveliness of Christ from Song of Solomon. We asked those who went about their experiences.

What was something you learned or that really made an impression on you from the talks?

Hannah (North Edinburgh) – I think the main thing that made an impression on me is that as humans we know the truth but choose to ignore it because we think our way is better.

Matteo (Glasgow) – Joel Loughridge delivered a series from the Song of Solomon “On the Loveliness of Christ”. I thought it was great how Mr Loughridge explained the deeper meanings of the book instead of just focusing on the surface. It was powerful to learn how highly Christ regards his “Bride”, the church, and even when she feels unloveable he makes much of her.

Elena (Glasgow) – The talks really impacted me as they were on Song of Songs which I wasn’t particularly familiar with before.

Grant (Glasgow) – The talks were on Song of Solomon, and Joel managed to explain the book really well, so my whole understanding of the book has greatly increased. The two themes running through the book of Solomon and his love for the Shulamite as well as the other theme of Christ’s love for the church are very interesting to see.

What was your favourite activity?

Hannah – My favourite activity was either messy games, prison island, or tubing.

Matteo – As always, post-messy games football on a slippery tarp is up there, but I also really enjoyed the talent show/concert.

Elena – My favourite activity was messy games as it was a lot of wet games this year, and we had a big water fight at the end.

Grant – My favourite activity was the competitive sports where we were split into teams to play different sports. This was good fun and was helpful to get to know new people.

What was your favourite thing about camp?

Hannah – My favourite thing about camp is getting to see all my friends and spend time with them, as well as meeting new people and making new friends.

Matteo – Being my third year there it felt pretty established, so it was much more laid-back and mature than previously which I enjoyed too. It’s always good meeting new people though, camp friendships are special.

Elena – Staying up late in the evening to chat and play board games with my friends.

Grant – My favourite thing about camp was the fellowship we had in our small discussion group after every talk. This was a great way to further discuss the talks and answer any questions we might have had about what Joel was talking about.
