May Good News

From the Editorial:

Every generation of Christianity faces fresh challenges that need a response from a Christian perspective. Two such issues in our day are Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the progressive policies of the Western world. AI is not sinful per se, whereas cultural Marxism is a grievous rebellion against God’s authority. Both issues can be tricky to respond to, but thankfully we have articles on them in this issue. I hope it helps you as you formulate your own thoughts on these matters.

Nathan Eshelman’s ancient church history series continues by looking at Athanasius, one of the most significant men in the Patristic period. From his life we can draw many lessons for today, even if he died over 1,600 years ago!

Our historical reprint is the first part of a sermon by William Symington (1795-1863), perhaps one of the most significant RP ministers of the nineteenth century, still well-known today for his major work Messiah the Prince on the Mediatorial dominion of Christ. This sermon is on a different theme entirely – that of charity to the poor. The Bible clearly shows that this is a duty for the church. Symington’s sermon is useful, but it takes much thought as to how to apply it in 21st Century Scotland, where Government programmes have replaced diaconal care.

Another group of needy people that we should consider are those in prison. Scotland’s 8,000 prisoners (approximate) need the Gospel too. We have interviewed Rev. Tim McCracken from the RP Church of North America about the many interesting opportunities that he is having in an unlikely environment.
