A Transatlantic Pulpit Swap

“In July 2024, Rev. Joe Allyn (Shawnee, KS – RPCNA) and Rev. Stephen Steele (Stranraer – RPCS) undertook a month-long pulpit swap. We asked both pastors, along with a member from each congregation, for their reflections.

In this world of darkness, we must shine – you in your small corner, and I in mine.

But sometimes it’s good for us to get out of our small corner.

One way this can be done – without leaving home – is through familiarity with church history. Church historian David Steinmetz says: “The first task of church history as a theological discipline is to free Christians from their own parochialism and make them truly catholic [ie universal]”.
